• ESR 5: Effect of Modulation of ERAP1 activity in antigen processing and presentation
Recruiting Institution: University of Southampton, UK
PhD institution: University of Southampton, UK
Supervisor: Prof. Edd James
Project Description
An ESR position is available to work on fundamental aspects of antigen processing and presentation at the Centre for Cancer Immunology at the University of Southampton. The Centre is situated at the University Hospital Southampton within the Faculty of Medicine and hosts world-leaders in cancer immunology. The site offers access to state of the art facilities to enable an environment covering fundamental discovery science through to the clinic. The ESR will work in the team of E. James interested in understanding the antigen processing pathway and how this impacts on the immune response to cancer and autoimmunity.
The selected candidate will study how modulation of antigen processing and presentation alters the generation and presentation of antigenic peptide epitopes in mouse and human tumours, cell lines and primary tissue. This fundamental project will use advanced techniques and approaches recently developed in the lab to probe these research questions. The candidate will collaborate with a fellow PhD student studying the ability to induce protective anti-tumour responses through modulation of the antigen processing and presentation pathway.

Essential Background: Training and knowledge in immunology. Experience of immune based approaches.

Desirable Background: Experience in performing flow cytometry and T cell activation assays. Knowledge of preclinical tumour models.

Local Requirements: For more information and to apply please see link and email eddjames@soton.ac.uk using the subject CAPSTONE enquiry/application.
Planned Secondments: Academic to University of Paris (FR) 3M for screening techniques of large numbers of peptides for CTL presentation; Industrial to Inocure (CZ) 2M, for training on advanced drug delivery techniques.
Planned Starting Date: 1st Oct 2021
Application Deadline: 2nd Apr. 2021
